    His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minster of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai was present to see Godolphin's Gamilati lead home a 1-2 when comfortably beating stable companion Pimpernel in the Gulf News-sponsored Listed UAE 1000 Guineas, the first Classic of the season and over 1600m on the all-weather.

    Gulf News sponsor this Friday afternoon 's Dubai World Cup Carnival meeting at Meydan with the official feature, the UAE 1000 Guineas highlighting a card which also includes the Group 3 Al Shindagha Sprint.

    The first Classic of the season, the 1600m Listed UAE 1000 Guineas has attracted a field of seven headed by Godolphin's Gamilati who comfortably won the 1400m trial for the race on her local debut. Trained by Mahmoud Al Zarooni, she proved she handles the all-weather surface on that occasion and she looks the one they all have to beat with Frankie Dettori again in the saddle.

    Able One, a three time Group 1 winner over 1,600m in Hong Kong including last year’s Hong Kong Mile, is amongst the 368 entries from 14 countries for the US$1 million Group 2 Godolphin Mile, sponsored by Etisalat.

    Trained by John Moore Able One will represent Hong Kong, and joins four other horses from that country.

    This year will see the 17th running of the Godolphin Mile and it proved to be the most popular race for entries as it led the nine Dubai World Cup events with the largest number of horses entered.

    The first classic of the season, the UAE 1000 Guineas, complemented by the Group 3 Al Shindagha Sprint highlights racing at Meydan this Friday.

    UAE 1000 Guineas and the Al Shindagha Sprint are both contested on the all-weather surface over 1,600 and 1,200m respectively. The Meydan Classic Trial will be run over 1,400m on the turf.

    Post time for the seventh Dubai World Cup Carnival racemeeting is 3:00 pm and is kindly sponsored by one of Meydan’s pillar partners, Gulf News.

    The US$2 million Group Two UAE Derby, sponsored by The Saeed & Mohammed Al Naboodah Group received 136 horses entered, with a strong international contingent that will be seeking to break the stranglehold by UAE-based trainer Saeed bin Suroor and South Africa's Mike de Kock who are the only conditioners to win in 12-year history of the race.

    Last year Saeed bin Suroor secured a record seventh win as the Godolphin-owned filly Khawlah bested a field of 14 to become the first filly to defeat the colts in the 1,900 metre contest for three-year-olds on the all-weather surface.

    The US$5 million Group One Dubai Duty Free, sponsored by Dubai Duty Free has 332 entries from 13 countries, with Presvis, second in 2009 before winning in 2011, aiming to defend his crown.

    Those behind him in 2011, South Africa’s River Jetez and Britain’s Wigmore Hall, are again among the entries as is last Thursday’s exciting Group 2 Al Rashidiya winner Musir whose trainer Mike de Kock has said is being pointed at the race.

    Musir could not have been more impressive when winning the Dubai Duty Free-sponsored Group 2 Al Rashidiya, the 1800m turf feature at Meydan on Thursday evening, in front of a large crowd which included His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minster of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.

    Jockey Christophe Soumillon oozed confidence throughout on the Mike de Kock-trained five-year-old son of Redoute’s Choice who was following up an equally impressive win in the Group 3 Al Maktoum Challenge Round I (1600m all-weather) on his previous start.

    The list of nominees for the US$10 million Group 1 Dubai World Cup sponsored by Emirates Airline, is compiled of an international cast of some of racing’s current and rising stars, and features a number of trainers who have previously won the world’s richest race.

    This will be the 17th renewal of the famed event and will be held on Saturday, March 31, 2012, as part of the overall 9 race programme that serves as the world’s richest day in racing valued at US$27.25 million.

    Dubai Duty Free sponsor Thursday's sixth meeting of the 2012 Dubai World Cup Carnival, which is appropriate considering the featured Group 2 Al Rashidiya has twice been won by subsequent Dubai World Cup night Group 1 Dubai Duty Free winners – the first of which was Right Approach in 2004.

    The second to win both 1800m turf features was Presvis, who registered the notable double for UK-based trainer Luca Cumani last year and seeks to become the first horse to win the Al Rashidiya twice.

    The US$5 million Group 1 Dubai Sheema Classic sponsored by Longines, one of the chief supporting races on the 2012 Dubai World Cup card has attracted 254 nominations from 14 countries.

    This will be the 15th running of the 2,410m contest (first run in 1998) that annually attracts some of the world’s greatest turf stayers. Last year trainer Mahmoud Al Zarooni, registered his first win in the Dubai Sheema Classic and will be seeking to defend his title with 14 entries. They are led by French Navy, Dubai Prince and Casamento.

    The Group 2 Al Rashidiya will serve as the highlight of the sixth Dubai World Cup Carnival racemeeting this Thursday, and will be sponsored by Dubai Duty Free, a pillar partner of the Meydan Group.

    Post time is 6:30 pm for the racing programme that will feature six races and serve as the sixth of the Dubai World Cup Carnival’s scheduled 16-race days.
